Respite Services

We work closely with our clients and their families to support them in achieving their full potential by providing a wide range of community-based services.

What are Respite Services?

St Catherine’s respite care provides short break overnight stays to children with a moderate to profound intellectual disability allowing children an opportunity to take a break in a home-from-home dedicated setting. Respite care also provides families / carers with a break from full-time caring.

We understand that caring for a loved one with an intellectual disability can be both rewarding and challenging. Our respite services provide families and primary caregivers with much-needed relief. Whether it’s a single night or a few nights, our highly-trained teams will ensure your loved one is safe and well-cared for while you take some time for yourself. During their stay, we offer fun and stimulating activities, promoting social interactions and individual growth.

What type of Respite Services do we provide?

St Catherine’s currently provides traditional overnight respite care to children, aged 6 to 17 years, with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities. Our three registered centres can each provide respite care for up to 4 child each night for a duration of 1 to 4 nights at a time.

For each individual Respite Services provides:

  • Interactions with other receiving care and engaging with trained care staff
  • A change of environment that can be stimulating and refreshing
  • Access to professional care and support with a focus on your lifelong skill development and independence

For their family / carer Respite Services provides:

  • A break from full-time caring and reduced stress
  • Recharge your energy, refocus, and improve quality time with your loved one
  • Engage in social activities that may be otherwise difficult

St Catherine’s Respite Services actively encourage community engagement and social inclusion. Through various activities and outings, we help individuals build social connections and foster a sense of belonging within the broader community.
