We work closely with our clients and their families to support them in achieving their full potential by providing a wide range of community-based services.

Adult Day Services

St Catherine’s strongly believe in the potential of every person, and we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where they can thrive. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Operating in line with New Directions, our adult day service is community-based and places on emphasis on promoting independence, community integration, and individualised care.

What is Adult Day Services?

St Catherine’s currently provides day services to adults, aged 18 to 25 years, with a diagnosis of moderate to profound intellectual disability.

These services operate 5 days per week from two central hubs based on the outskirts of Newtownmountkennedy in County Wicklow. Our day service hubs operate in line with New Directions, the HSE’s approach to supporting adults with disabilities in Ireland.

Each day service hub is setup to support individuals under the four basic principles of New Directions; person-centredness, community involvement, active citizenship and high-quality service provision.

We offer New Directions Day Services to people with a higher supports needs profile.

Introduced in September 2021, “New Directions” is a framework for providing services and supports to adults with disabilities in Ireland. The range of supports available to adults should facilitate them to;

  • Make choices and plans to support personal goals
  • Have influence over the decisions which affect their lives
  • Achieve personal goals and aspirations
  • Be active, independent members of their community and society.

Suitable candidates for the St Catherine’s adult day service are identified by the HSE as being those who can potentially benefit from the New Directions programme. St Catherine’s primarily offers placements to those of school-leaving age who are preparing to go out into the world and for whom the HSE has completed guidance profiles.

As a family member, you can also ask for your loved one to take part in New Directions with St Catherine’s.

As a community based support, our adult day service strongly advocates and fosters community engagement and social inclusion. Through various activities and outings, we help adults to build social connections and foster a sense of belonging within the broader community.

We share this responsibility with the individuals we support and their families so that all can thrive in the embrace of our community.
